Aboriginal financial counselling

ALRM provides financial counselling services to Aboriginal People. Our Financial Counsellors work with and for Aboriginal people facing financial hardship. Aboriginal Financial Counselling Service (AFCS) has qualified Financial Counsellors to support you with your financial needs.

Financial Counsellors are here for you to talk with about any debts, service contracts, or other financial issues you may be facing. We will provide you with the information and relevant resources to make good financial decisions, including advocating for your rights.

Our outreach service travel to regional and remote communities, including Davenport Community, Port Pirie, Whyalla and into the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Land regions. AFCS work alongside ALRMs’ legal expertise, providing updates on important issues facing our communities.

We are in the unique position to gather information about specific and systematic financial barriers facing Aboriginal people, where appropriate we have directed these issues to Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission or relevant Ombudsman, including Mobile Phone Contracts, Energy Suppliers, ATM and money access arrangements. This has only been possible because of the work we are doing with you, our community.
