The South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation Network (SAACCON) is a network of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) in South Australia and has been established to provide advice, recommendations and guidance to the Coalition of Peaks, and the South Australian, Commonwealth and Local Governments on the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
SAACCON is auspiced by the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement (ALRM) and is a member of the Coalition of Peaks on Closing the Gap. In March 2019, the Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations (Coalition of Peaks) entered into a historic formal Partnership Agreement on the refresh of Closing the Gap with the Council of Australian Governments led by the Prime Minister of Australia.
The Partnership Agreement means that for the first time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, through their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Bodies, will share decision making with governments on the refresh of Closing the Gap from 2019-2029.
On 30 June 2020, a new National Agreement on Closing the Gap (Agreement) was signed off. The Agreement consists of 4 Priority Reform Targets and 16 Socio-Economic Targets in areas including education, employment, health and wellbeing, justice, safety, housing, land and waters, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.
